It took some time for me to learn how to ROM hack and many of the things that I know how to do today. My first translation group was Unknown Translations with a couple people that was hosted by J2e game translation group. When the J2e domain closed down, I decided to go independent and have been so ever since. I have helped other people with their projects over the years as well.

In 1998 I was working for Zophar's Domain which is a retro gaming news website with many emulators and utilities. I was a administrator there for almost two years. During this time I edited the many HTML pages manually as it was done back then with Notepad. I also posted news on the front page and helped manage the forum members and sections.

In 1998 was a IRC moderator for several ROMhacking channels in both the ROM hack and translation hacking communities. Was moderating IRC channels for about 10 years. Was also part of the ROM hacking group Arc-Nova, by Sliver-X who hosted many websites for many years. Was also a moderator for ROMhacking.net for a few months.

Translation game hacking is translating a video game that is in another language such as Japanese into English so that many people can play this game. Each projects is long term and can take a few months up to several years because of the difficulty and learning curve required. You also need to be able to read, write and translate the language script dumps from the target game. I also have a Japanese and Russian keyboards that will help make table files. This keyboard can help you visually when playing a Japanese or Russian game. Look at the characters in the game, click on the character buttons to get the characters you need. Copy and then paste to other documents as needed for translation and other hacking purposes.

NSFs are Nintendo game music files extracted out of the original game ROM for play on a PC platform that has a NSF player, that was originally modeled after the SID or C-64 music. I have a large collection of NSFs, most of them I have done myself, a few that have been done by other people that have cartridge expansion sound from the Famicom console, which is the Japanese NES. Extracting music from NES games is a difficult process which requires 6502 and NES hardware knowledge.

I also have a large collection of NES source code which consists of the original developer code which can be licensed and unlicensed. Also, there is a lot of code that has been reverse engineered by the ROM hacking community members. It's a long process of collecting source code which also helps to make it public so other people may be interested in adding to it, possibly. A lot of code is not ready to be assembled and needs additional work. Some source code is ready to be assembled into a working ROM.

There really isn't too many links pages that have up to date links which is why I made this page. You will find mostly relevent links to video game subjects, anywhere from general, ROM hacking and system development pages for mostly NES material.

Main Navigation Options:

HOME - NSF - TRANSLATIONS - SOURCE CODE - LINKS - CONTACT - TOP
