Formerly known as Asmik Kun Land. This game is about the normal when it comes to side scrolling platform games. What's majorly different is that you can purchase your items in a shop much like a RPG. Once you get to the boss battles, that's where this game is set apart as far as being unique. The boss battles reminds me of the "rock.paper, sisors" game. You have 3 icons, Rabbit, Stone, Hand. Rabbit beats hand,Hand bets stone,Stone beats Rabbit. Once you get any of the combinations right you can procede further along the maze. Your goal being the end of the maze. What's interesting is that you have different conditions for each boss battle. The first one is that you have to reach the end of the maze. And if you dont get the right combination then you are set back to the previous marker in the maze. And to make matters worse is that a monster appears. If the monster catches up to you before you can make it to the end of the maze then you die. Another condition is that you have to push the boss back to his/her end of the maze in order to win. If the boss pushes you back then you lose.
This game was made by Asmik, now known as Asmik Ace Entertainment. Following suite with the other Asmik games in the GameBoy system genre. This game has what the others lack and that's color and a much better look in my opinion. If you know about the Asmik games on the GameBoy system, you will notice that the US release has the main character as Boomer. In order to preserve the authenticity of the Japanese version, I have chosen not to rename the character to Boomer. The main character keeping the name of the company which created this character. However I have changed the title name from Asmik Kun Land to Adventures in Asmik Land to add a more english feel to the game. This game was released in 1991.
This game is a mapper #4 game and even though the mapper is classified as MMC3/MMC6, this game is a MMC3 or T*ROM PCB. Very seldom will you find a game that is classified as both mappers. For the most part this game should operate on most if not all emulators that have a extensive amount of mappers implemented.
The story goes as follows. You are this pink dinosaur mascot named Boomer, of the company Asmik Ace Entertainment. Your job is to end the chaos on this island that is infested with monsters of every type. What you must do is collect all 6 fragments to awaken the sleeping dragon god and next to restore stability to the island. Your adventure awaits you.
I have released a public beta patch, however I'm not going to be offering this patch as it's not hardly a proper demonstration of the intended translation. I was working on a corrupt version of the ROM and didnt know it at the time. The corruption resulted in the crashing of the ending scene of the game, when you enter the last mission of the Dragon God. I'm going to be uploading a patch sometime in the future. So be patient if you like this game like I do, even though it is a pretty strange and unique game.
Update History
08-04-11 - I know it's been over a couple of years since this project was last updated. The situation has been that translation support hasn't been easy, a normal trend for this game. I was beginning to wonder if this game was cursed. Once again the script has changed hands to Iriliane who has made a lot of progress translating the scripts and I have inserted and hacked in all that I have received so far. Not too much is left to translate and hack in. As a result of this progress, I have changed several of the screen shots to include this new work.
01-21-09 - Hacking has resumed on this project. Some screen shots have been added to show progress. KM has accepted the scripts and agreed to translate, so thanks to him. Scripts have been redumped and labled. I also mention that all of my work was somehow lost over the years, so I have started from scratch. Come to find out that the old crashing issue towards the end of the game was a result of hacking the overhead map. This issue has been resolved.
06-01-01 - Approximate project start date.
